Elon Musk unveiled the latest generation of Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, at the "We, Robot" event. Optimus, designed to perform a variety of tasks, revealed that the hardest part of being a robot is learning how to be human.

Optimus is a humanoid robot capable of performing various tasks.

Elon Musk believes Optimus will be the most significant product ever created.

At the event, Musk gave a glimpse of a futuristic world filled with self-driving cars and humanoid robots. The audience marveled at the Cybercabs – fully autonomous cars without pedals or steering wheels – but Optimus also garnered significant attention. Musk introduced Optimus as a robot capable of doing anything you want. The event demonstrated Optimus’s skills, including walking, dancing, holding a glass, waving, and speaking. After the show, Tesla allowed the Optimus humanoids to interact with attendees under the surveillance of Tesla members.

A notable conversation took place when someone asked Optimus, "What is the hardest part of being a robot?" Optimus thoughtfully replied, "Trying to learn how to be human like you guys are." The robot's delivery was impressively human-like, with hand gestures and conversational nuances such as taking pauses and asking follow-up questions.

Optimus also mentioned that it strives to get closer to human behaviors daily, seeking help from people to achieve this goal. This statement suggests that Optimus, much like AI models like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Meta AI, learns from human data.

Another interesting interaction, shared on X by @ehuna, showed the robot playing rock, paper, scissors with a human. Optimus not only knew the game and its rules but also displayed good sportsmanship by complimenting the human opponent, "You are very good at rock, paper, scissors."

Elon Musk envisions a future where Optimus will walk among people, performing tasks such as serving drinks, walking dogs, babysitting, and mowing lawns. He estimates that the robot will eventually cost between $20,000 and $30,000. Musk confidently stated, "I believe this will be the most significant product ever created."

Although still in development, Tesla continues to release updates showcasing Optimus’s progress. The demonstration on Thursday highlighted the advancements in the Gen 2 model, representing a significant leap in the robot's evolution. While the idea of a robot behaving like a human is fascinating, it also evokes a sense of eeriness, reminiscent of the reaction to OpenAI's human-like voice mode in ChatGPT.
