Apple recently released the Public Beta versions of iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17, introducing a plethora of new features for each operating system. Notably, Apple has incorporated India-specific features into iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, aiming to cater to the region-specific audience. Here are three India-specific Apple features worth exploring in iOS 17:
1. Enhanced Siri Language Recognition: Siri has become smarter in understanding speech by enabling recognition of two languages simultaneously. For example, if you mix English and Hindi while speaking, Siri will comprehend your command accurately. This feature is applicable across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. It supports various commands such as setting alarms or timers, sending messages, making calls, playing music, checking the weather, and looking up directions.
2. Expanded Transliteration Keyboard: The new iOS 17 introduces transliteration keyboards for major Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. This feature allows users to type in their regional language using the English keyboard, which then automatically converts the words into the desired language. Previously, Apple provided transliteration keyboards for Urdu, Punjabi, and Gujarati in iOS 16.4, while Hindi, Bengali, and Marathi were already available. The feature is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
3. Dual-SIM Enhancements: To address the needs of Indian users who often utilize two SIM cards, iOS 17 offers improved management options. Users can now sort messages based on the primary and secondary SIM cards, making it easier to distinguish between personal and work-related messages. Additionally, users can assign different ringtones to each SIM card, enabling identification of incoming calls based on the associated number. The extended call history within the Phone app now includes calls from FaceTime and WhatsApp.
iOS 17 also introduces the ability to save full-page screenshots taken in Safari, Mail, or Notes as either images or PDFs on iPhone and iPad. Moreover, iPadOS 17 now allows filtering of messages by unread, known senders, and unknown senders, a feature previously available only on iPhones.
Apple's inclusion of these India-specific features demonstrates the company's commitment to enhancing user experience and meeting the specific needs of Indian consumers. These additions are expected to further enhance the functionality and appeal of Apple devices among Indian users.
