OpenAI has recently introduced a beta version of Tasks, a new feature in ChatGPT that competes directly with virtual assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. This innovative feature allows users to set reminders and schedule tasks, effectively transforming ChatGPT into a personal assistant.
With Tasks, users can instruct ChatGPT to send one-time reminders, such as alerts for concert ticket sales, or set up recurring actions like daily weather updates and weekly news summaries. Additionally, ChatGPT may offer task suggestions based on previous interactions, enhancing the personalized experience.
How to Access the New Feature
To start using this feature, simply select the "Task" option from the ChatGPT menu. From there, you can type out what you would like to set and when you need it done. ChatGPT may propose tasks based on your recent conversations, though you will need to confirm any suggestions before they’re added. While this can be helpful, some users may find these prompts a bit overwhelming if they prefer less AI involvement. Once a task is completed, you will receive notifications on the web, desktop, or mobile devices. There is a cap of 10 active tasks at any time to keep things organized.
In a nutshell, OpenAI seems to have even grander plans on the horizon. Reports suggest they are working on a feature called Operator that could allow ChatGPT to take over your computer tasks automatically. With the help of another program, known as Caterpillar, ChatGPT might be able to find specific information, troubleshoot issues, or handle documents for you seamlessly.
