Apple is set to start manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models in India, following the production of the iPhone 15 models in the country last year.
The shift aims to cut production costs by 10 percent, though retail prices may remain unchanged due to high taxes and component costs.
This is the first time these premium models will be assembled outside China.
Foxconn will lead production at its Tamil Nadu facility, with Pegatron and Tata Group also participating.
Production will start soon after the iPhone 16 global launch, expected on September 10.
Most iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max units produced in India will be exported to Europe, West Asia, and the US.
The move is intended to boost India’s share of global iPhone production from 14 to 25 percent by next year.
