Apple set to launch smart doorbell with face ID support in 2025
Apple is reportedly developing a smart doorbell featuring its renowned Face ID technology, marking a major step in the company's push to expand its smart home offerings. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the doorbell will function similarly to the iPhone's lock screen, automatically unlocking when it detects an authorized face at the door.
The smart doorbell is expected to include a Secure Enclave chip, the same security technology found in Apple devices, ensuring the safe storage and processing of Face ID data. This chip will keep biometric information separate from other system data, bolstering security.
In addition, the doorbell will integrate with third-party HomeKit smart locks and could partner with smart door manufacturers to deliver a comprehensive smart home solution. The doorbell will also feature Apple’s new “Proxima” combination, along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips that will likely be incorporated into the upcoming HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.
Currently, Apple offers the Logitech Circle View Wired Doorbell for $199.99 on its website, alongside various third-party HomeKit-compatible options. This new smart doorbell, expected to debut by the end of 2025, could significantly enhance Apple’s smart home ecosystem and provide users with an all-in-one, secure, and seamless solution for home automation.
This development signals Apple's continued efforts to strengthen its smart home ecosystem through first-party solutions, addressing compatibility concerns by adopting Matter technology and fostering integration with other devices.
