The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Meta Platforms (META.O), the parent company of Facebook, has been in discussions to incorporate Meta's generative AI model into Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) recently announced AI system for iPhones.

The Journal reported that in addition to Google and Meta, AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity have been in discussions with Apple to integrate their generative AI into Apple Intelligence. This information was sourced from individuals who are familiar with the matter.

Apple, Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic did not promptly reply to requests for comment outside of regular business hours. The negotiations have not been concluded and the result is not finalised, as reported by the Journal. It is mentioned that partnerships with Apple would enable AI companies to achieve broader product distribution.

The magnitude of the potential financial gain is uncertain, however, the discussions revolved around AI companies marketing and selling high-end subscriptions to their services via Apple Intelligence.

The iPhone manufacturer, Apple unveiled its eagerly anticipated AI strategy this month, announcing that it would incorporate the latest Apple Intelligence technology into its suite of applications, including Siri, and introduce the Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT to its devices.
