Since its launch, Gemini has been integrated into the Google (Search) app on iOS. However, a new development is underway as an iPhone user recently discovered a standalone “Google Gemini” app on the App Store, which includes access to Gemini Live.

With this new standalone app, users will now see a Gemini icon on their home screens, promoting the message: “Unlock the power of Google AI on your iPhone.” Previously, users had to open the Google app and switch to the “Gemini” tab at the top. Alternatively, since September, the Google app’s home screen widget has allowed users to directly access Gemini with customizable shortcuts.

The App Store listing for “Google Gemini” indicates that users can now access Gemini Live, a feature not yet available in the Google app. One user who downloaded the app demonstrated the voice experience in action. Gemini utilizes Live Activity, enabling it to remain active while you continue using your phone.

So far, there has been only one report of this app being downloadable, specifically for a user in the Philippines. The App Store listing does not load in the US, displaying the message: “This app is currently not available in your country or region.” It appears Google is conducting tests in select countries before a broader launch.

Currently, the functionality of Gemini on the iPhone via the Google app mirrors that of gemini.google.com. However, the user interface has not been updated to align with the Android experience. The introduction of this standalone app might allow Google to roll out updates more rapidly. It’s worth noting that Google Assistant is already available as a separate app on the Apple platform.
