Microsoft has introduced Dragon Copilot, an artificial intelligence-powered voice assistant designed to assist healthcare professionals by automating clinical documentation and administrative tasks.

Built on technologies from Dragon Medical One and DAX Copilot, developed by Nuance—acquired by Microsoft in 2021—the AI tool enhances medical workflows through advanced voice dictation and ambient listening. Dragon Copilot enables healthcare providers to generate referral letters, after-visit summaries, and search medical information while supporting multilingual dictation and real-time note creation.

Joe Petro, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Health and Life Sciences Solutions and Platforms, underscored AI’s impact on the healthcare sector. “AI has the ability to alleviate administrative burdens, allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care,” Petro said.

Integrated with major electronic health record (EHR) systems, including Epic, Dragon Copilot provides a centralized platform for automating documentation and retrieving trusted medical data from sources such as the CDC and FDA. Early data indicates that clinicians using the tool report lower burnout levels, while 93% of patients surveyed noted an improved experience.

The AI assistant will launch in the United States and Canada in May, with future expansion planned for the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, and Germany.
