One of the world’s biggest consumer electronics’ event-CES 2025-is underway at Las Vegas, where the top consumer, technology, auto and other companies are showcasing their products and solutions. Interestingly, this is an occasion wherein most of the innovations on exhibit have an AI (artificial intelligence) tilt. For instance, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled several new products that included the GeForce RTX 50 series of gaming chips along with the new Cosmos platform designed for robotics and autonomous vehicles. Google unveiled the latest version of its TV operating system where the company uses Gemini AI assistant to summarise the biggest news of the day. The other feature that Google showed is the new “always-on” for some TVs, which use sensors to identify whether a person is nearby. On detection, it will display information that would be useful, like news, weather or any such relevant updates.

Samsung revealed new features like bringing a popular feature from its smartphones and tablets to its televisions-Live Translate. The feature will work in seven languages, although Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed about the languages that will be incorporated. Meanwhile, Microsoft announced its big push for adoption of Windows 11. “We believe that Windows 11 is being made available at a time when the world needs it most – providing advanced AI capabilities and modern security benefits, which millions of people expect in 2025 and beyond. As the world moves with us to Windows 11, we will welcome them with new features, enhanced security, improved functionality, and the familiar Windows experience they know and love," said Microsoft EVP Yusuf Mehdi. Such features powered by AI shows that the world is taking a giant leap in terms of AI technology and there is no looking back. As more and more software and hardware applications get embedded with AI solutions, it is bound to create new business opportunities for technology companies around the world.

Indian IT industry will especially benefit from the higher adoption of AI across consumer electronics companies. Indian engineering services companies are likely to tap into these opportunities and perform better in the coming years. Moreover, more adoption of AI means that there will be a major demand for AI talent to man the design, development and maintenance of those systems, both software and hardware. This will create more opportunities for the talent that exists in India, which has evolved into an AI talent hub. On the back of aggressive upskilling by many Indian IT firms, the country now houses lakhs of AI talent. As pointed out recently by the Microsoft CEO the country cannot be ignored in the technology map owing to its engineering talent. In the meanwhile, though these factors will push the growth of the Indian IT industry, some precautions have to be taken into consideration. Firstly, more AI integration means generation of more consumer data, which is controlled by multinational firms. Against this backdrop, India requires robust data privacy policy to upkeep the data integrity of its consumers.
