Google Gemini Chatbot Opens to All Users, No Sign-In Required
Google Gemini can now be used without signing in, offering more privacy but with limited features. Advanced tools require an account login for access.

Google has made its AI-powered chatbot, Gemini, accessible to users without requiring them to sign in, following a similar move by OpenAI with ChatGPT. The change allows users to interact with Gemini without linking their Google account, broadening accessibility amid increasing competition in artificial intelligence.
On February 6, OpenAI removed the sign-up requirement for ChatGPT, likely to attract a wider user base. In response, Google has now introduced a similar option for Gemini. Users can access Gemini’s web version at gemini.google.com without logging in. However, the feature is not yet available on the mobile app.
When accessed in incognito mode without signing in, the chatbot now displays the message, “Meet Gemini, your personal AI assistant.” Previously, it greeted signed-in users by name. This update enables users to start generating responses immediately by entering prompts into the search bar.
Despite this increased accessibility, some restrictions apply. Users who do not sign in can only access the Gemini 2.0 Flash model, designed for general tasks. Advanced features such as 2.0 Flash Thinking (experimental), Deep Research, and Personalization require an account login.
Additionally, chat history is not saved unless users sign in, which may inconvenience those looking for a continuous experience. The file upload option also remains unavailable without logging in.
Removing the sign-in requirement could encourage more users to try Gemini, particularly those who prioritize privacy. Since conversations are not stored without an account, some may view this as an added security measure.
However, users now face a choice: sign in to access Gemini’s full range of features, or use the chatbot without linking it to their account, but with limited capabilities.
