OpenAI makes ChatGPT an entire lot more personal. In a new update that was announced via their official X account in the X account, the AI company has revealed that ChatGPT is now able to recall information from temporary chat, making it better at adjusting responses, providing suggestions, and assisting in everything from writing assignments to the goals of learning.

How does the feature function?

Although memory isn't an entirely new concept for ChatGPT the latest update elevates it to a new level. In the event that you initiate with a new chat it will build upon what is already known about you, such as your preferences or interests as well as previous interactions. This makes responses more relevant and less like beginning again each time.

"As always, you're in control," personalised AI. You can turn off memory completely, or decide not to allow ChatGPT use chat history to reference earlier chats. If you've shut off GPT memory but you haven't done so, you'll be completely opted-out from this new feature as well. If you'd like to know what ChatGPT is aware of about you or make a change it can be asked for it directly.

Memory update is rolling through these regions

The new ChatGPT memory tools are being released to everyone ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro users. This is not the case in regions like EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein in which the feature isn't available as of yet. OpenAI states that users on Team, Enterprise, and Education plans will be able to access the feature in the coming weeks.

In addition, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made an appearance on X to provide insights into the creation of GPT-4.5 and what's next on the future. "A lot of people were interested in how we made GPT-4.5 and what comes next," Altman wrote. "We had a podcast featuring Alex Paino, Dan Selsam and @atootoon. All of them were the key players in driving the AI memory update.
