Apple is making significant leadership changes in its artificial intelligence division following setbacks in advancing Siri’s capabilities, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the developments.
The company previously announced that certain AI-driven updates for Siri would be postponed until 2026 but did not disclose reasons for the delay.
Mike Rockwell, who has overseen Apple's Vision Products Group (VPG), will now lead Siri’s development efforts. CEO Tim Cook has reportedly lost confidence in John Giannandrea, Apple's AI chief, in delivering expected AI innovations, prompting the leadership change, according to Bloomberg.
Rockwell, credited with leading the development of the Vision Pro headset, will now report directly to Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering. This transition removes Siri from Giannandrea’s purview, restructuring oversight within the company.
Paul Meade, a senior hardware engineering executive under Rockwell, will assume leadership of the Vision Products Group, Bloomberg’s sources said.
Apple has not issued a statement regarding the reported executive reshuffle.
In 2024, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI-powered features designed to enhance user experience with capabilities such as email summarization and content rewriting.
