Pune, Jan 24: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a tool to enhance creativity, rather than its replacement, said Prof Prabhat Ranjan, Vice Chancellor, DY Patil International University, Akurdi, Pune in an event here.
Delivering Mimamsa inaugural lecture, Prof Ranjan said that he has become a creative person by combining his natural ability with AI.
Referring to Peter Diamandis, he said there will be two types of companies – those that have fully embraced AI and those that are out of business.
AI is a broad term that refers to any technology that is capable of intelligent behaviour. Wide range of technologies, from simple algorithms that can sort data, to more advanced systems that can mimic human-like thought processes
Prof Ranjan said, “With the help of AI, journalists are writing their copies, proof reading and translating the stories. They are also using AI for script writing and filmmaking as well.”
He added that technology is happening at a faster rate than we expect – All aspects of our life would be impacted by change in technology – Media, Communication and Design is no exception. He underlined the ethical aspects of Generative AI.
The VC said that Mimamsa is the apt name for the lecture series as we need to reflect on our contemporary times.
“In future, we intend to invite distinguished guests from India and abroad every month from diverse walks of life to deliver talks about contemporary realities”, said Dr Arvind Kumar, Director, School of Media & Journalism which organised the event.
