The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare has approved the establishment of four new government medical colleges in Telangana, furthering the state's goal of having a government medical college in each of its 33 districts.

This decision increases the number of new medical colleges for the current academic year to eight and raises the total number of government medical colleges in Telangana to 34, with a total of 4,090 government medical seats.

The newly approved medical colleges will be situated in Yadadri Bhongir, Medak, Maheshwaram, and Quthbullapur.

Each college will provide 50 MBBS seats, adding 200 new MBBS seats to the state's medical education system. Earlier this year, the National Medical Commission (NMC) inspected eight proposed medical colleges, initially approving four—Mulugu, Narasampet, Jogulamba Gadwal, and Narayanpet—in the first phase.

Approval for the colleges in Yadadri Bhongir, Medak, Maheshwaram, and Quthbullapur was initially withheld due to identified deficiencies.

Following improvements in infrastructure and staffing, the State government made a renewed appeal to the Union Ministry of Health, which has now granted approval for the remaining four colleges.
