Our government will offer attractive incentives for those who will invest in the State. We are also inviting MSMEs in the pharma sector to invest in the State - D Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Telangana Minister for IT & Industries, on Thursday said that the Telangana government would develop green pharma city on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Speaking to Bizz Buzz on the sidelines of analytica Anacon India, India Lab Expo, and Pharma Pro&Pack Expo 2024, here, he said: “Our plan is developed a green pharma city that will not leave an adverse impact on the environment”.

Previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government planned a mega Hyderabad Pharma City in over 19,000 acres at Mucherla and surrounding villages in Ranga Reddy district. However, the Indian National Congress (INC) promised in its 2023 Assembly election manifesto to cancel the project following agitation by farmers who lost land to the project. The Congress government indeed announced scrapping of project after it came to power in last December. However, the government recently informed the Telangana High Court, which is dealing with petitions from the affected farmers, that the project has not been cancelled. Recently, the government also announced setting up of Future City including AI City in that area.

Sridhar Babu, however, did not reveal the size of the proposed green pharma city. “Let’s see” was his cryptic reply when asked how much land would be used for the proposed pharma city.

Meanwhile, the Minister, while inaugurating the expo, expressed optimism that the pharma sector would make a major contribution to Telangana’s goal of achieving $1-trillion economy.

“Our government will offer attractive incentives for those who will invest in the State. We are also inviting MSMEs in the pharma sector to invest in the State,” he said. MSMEs are crucial to our growth, and we remain committed to creating an environment where these enterprises can prosper alongside global corporations, he added. The Minister also said Telangana government would enhance industrial infrastructure, including the development of specialized zones such as the Fourth Phase of Genome Valley, which will further cement Telangana’s position as a leader in life sciences.
