The Telangana government is considering introducing a digital card for every family to streamline access to ration, healthcare, and other welfare schemes. On Monday, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy discussed the proposal with officials from the Medical & Health and Civil Supplies Departments.

With states like Rajasthan, Haryana, and Karnataka already issuing similar cards containing comprehensive family details, the Chief Minister urged officials to study these models. He requested a detailed report analysing the benefits and challenges of using these cards for multiple services.

Revanth Reddy also directed officials to select one town and one village from each Assembly constituency to pilot the family digital card project. The cards are intended to enable access to all welfare benefits, including healthcare, ration, and other state programs.

Each card will include the health profiles of family members, ensuring efficient medical service delivery in the future. The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for an option to update family details, such as adding or removing members, and ordered the establishment of a district-level monitoring system for the cards.

Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Damodara Rajanarasimha, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, and senior officials attended the meeting. Last month, the Chief Minister directed health officials to study France's digital health card system, while it was also announced that the government would issue separate ration and health cards.
