The Cherlapalli railway station, built at a cost of Rs 430 crore, is being touted as an ultramodern passenger hub with infrastructure on par with the country’s top airports. Although the new station is set to open next month, authorities have yet to resolve the issue of providing efficient access for passengers.

The state government had started efforts to widen the roads leading to Cherlapalli Station on two sides. However, due to a lack of coordination, these road development and expansion projects have stalled. Consequently, there remains uncertainty about how passengers will be able to reach the facility.

Passengers are currently unable to reach Cherlapalli Station via the newly completed second phase of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) because services connecting to the new station have not yet been launched.

The second phase of MMTS included the completion of railway tracks between Medchal-Bolarum via Falaknuma to Umdanagar, Lingampalli to Tellapur, Sanathnagar to Cherlapalli, and Ghatkesar via Moula Ali. If MMTS services were operational, they would significantly benefit passengers travelling from Lingampalli, Medchal, Malkajgiri, and Kacheguda to Cherlapalli. Additionally, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation’s services on these routes are currently inadequate, adding to the concern.

To reach Cherlapalli Station from different parts of the city, passengers rely on two main routes: a 40-foot road from Mahalakshmi Nagar Colony and the road connecting IOCL to Cherlapalli. Both routes are currently too narrow and need widening. The GHMC had previously surveyed the area and determined that widening these roads would require demolishing at least 20 properties. However, due to resident resistance, these road expansion works have been stalled.

If Cherlapalli Station opens without the necessary road improvements, major traffic congestion and significant difficulties for passengers in reaching the station on time are likely. The lack of coordination between various departments is cited as a key factor hindering the progress of these road construction projects.
