Ex-RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das appointed principal secretary to PM

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to an official government notification issued today.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet stated that his tenure will be co-terminus with the Prime Minister’s term or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
In another key appointment, the tenure of NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam has been extended for a year, effective February 24, 2025. A retired IAS officer from the 1987 batch, Subrahmanyam was first appointed as NITI Aayog CEO in February 2023 for a two-year term.
Shaktikanta Das: A Seasoned Administrator
Shaktikanta Das, who served as RBI Governor from December 2018 to 2024, brings with him four decades of governance experience across various sectors, including finance, taxation, industries, and infrastructure at both central and state levels.
During his tenure at the Reserve Bank of India, he played a pivotal role in managing India's financial stability, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He implemented a series of innovative and unconventional policy measures in monetary policy, liquidity management, and regulatory frameworks to safeguard the economy from the pandemic’s impact.
His appointment as Principal Secretary to the PM is expected to leverage his vast economic and governance expertise in shaping key policy decisions at the highest level.
