Vijayawada: The blamegame The fighting in the TDP and its rival YSRCP has taken a new twist with both of them blaming each other over the crashing of chilli prices subjecting the farmers to resort to a distress sale.

Guntur known as 'Chilli City of India' recorded a turnover of about Rs10,000 crore during 2024-25. Guntur is also the main chilli production hub in India. Every year, the Chilli Market Yard on an average exports over 1.5 lakh chilli tikkis to over 20 countries. The yard also fetches around Rs100 crore in revenue to the State. The annual exports was put around Rs.4,600 crore during last fiscal. During his visit to Guntur Mirchi Yard on Wednesday, YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for depriving remunerative price to the chilli farmers after coming to power.

Jagan along with a large number of supporters visited the yard to express their solidarity with the farmers and Jagan hit out at the TDP-led coalition for the present situation saying since the formation of the three-party government, the farmers are denied Minimum

Support Price (MSP).

He said besides price fall, the input cost has gone up abnormally after the coalition government was formed.

Later YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu alleged that there was a serious security lapse during the visit of Jagan to the market yard. He said despite granting Z plus security, their leader was not provided minimum security during his visit. On the other hand, TDP leaders said Jagan visited their yard despite denial of permission due to

enforcement of election code.

Despite such a grave situation in Krishna, Guntur, NTR, Bapatla, Prakasam, Kurnool and Anantapur districts, there is no action from the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister to support the farmers leaving them in the lurch, Jagan said. The former Chief Minister said during the YSRCP regime, not only for chilli, MSP was extended to farmers who raised 24 crops. He said Rythu Bharosa Kendras were used at that time as anchor points to help the farmers. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister K Atchan Naidu accused Jagan of shedding crocodile tears for the farmers while not extending any support to them when he was in power. He said the remunerative price was fixed very low during the previous regime and criticised him for trying to politicise the situation.
