Hyderabad, April 1: Telugu Desam MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar has penned a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner complaining against Andhra Pradesh government officials who are organising programmes in favour of YSR Congress Party for the upcoming Lok Sabha and AP Assembly elections.
In his letter, the Rajya Sabha member raised concerns about the Education Department officials attempting to engage parents of students under the disguise of Parent-Teacher Meeting and certificate distribution programme for promoting the YSRCP election agenda. Furthermore, even teachers were forced to go to homes of young students who have finished their class 10th examination in March 2024, he alleged.
"Junior lecturers and postgraduate teachers are instructed by the Intermediate Education Department officials to 'educate' parents about welfare schemes such as 'Amma Vodi,' and 'Jaganna Gorumudda'. This type of activity has not been previously undertaken in the State. Thus, conducting door-to-door visits to the homes of nearly 6.3 lakh students who took the 10th standard examinations recently is a stealthy attempt to utilise the services of government employees for political campaigning purposes," Ravindra alleged.
The TDP MP requested that the Department of Intermediate Education be instructed to adhere to the Model Code of Conduct and immediately postpone the door-to-door visits of the lecturers and postgraduate teachers until May 13, 2024 (the polling day).
