Vijayawada: TDP and its allies have filed nominations for five MLC seats from the MLAs' quota, for which elections have been notified in Andhra Pradesh.

YSRCP has decided not to put up any candidate as it does not have sufficient numbers in the Assembly. As part of the alliance, TDP nominated two candidates from the BC community and one from SC while leaving one each to BJP and Jana Sena Party. JSP president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's brother Nagababu has already filed the nomination.

Accompanied by party leaders, BJP which finalised the ticket in favour of former State president and MLC Somu Veerraju submitted the nomination on Monday. Former MLC PVN Madhav was a strong contender for the MLC nomination from the BJP. In the place of Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari, Madhav may be named for the prost of BJP State president, party sources said. "The Central Election Commission of the BJP has chosen Somu Veeraju for the ensuing biennial elections to the Legislative Council of Andhra Pradesh," announced BJP national general secretary and headquarters in-charge Arun Singh.
