Vijayawada Even as there is speculation for quite some time that YSR Telangana Party (YTP) will be merged with the Congress, almost two years after former Chief Minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy's daughter Sharmila formed it with the support of her mother Vijayamma, there is no official word yet on when the merger will take place.
However, there is speculation that the merger will take place during the next visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Andhra Pradesh wherein he has decided to hold a huge public meeting in Visakhapatnam to drum up support for retaining Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.
The Congress is gearing up its machinery to come back to power in Telangana by dislodging the BRS government headed by K Chandrasekhara Rao. In a significant development on Monday, KVP Ramachandra Rao, former MP and a close lieutenant of Dr YSR, after meeting Rahul Gandhi on his way back to Delhi from a meeting in Khammam, said he had information that Sharmila will join the Congress shortly.
Despite formation of YSR Congress Party by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family, KVP preferred to remain in the Congress after the death of his political mentor. With elections a few months away, Sharmila has been denying media reports that she will merge her party with the Congress. She has been saying that she is 100 per cent committed to the development of Telangana for which her late father rendered yeoman service.
