Sharmila named head of APCC

Vijayawada: Putting at rest speculation on role to be given to YS Sharmila, the All India Congress Committee on Tuesday named her as the new president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) a day after receiving the resignation letter of Gidugu Rudra Raju.

In recognition of services rendered by outgoing APCC chief Rudra Raju, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement that he has been made a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the highest decision-making body of the grand old party.

Rudra Raju submitted his resignation on Monday setting off speculation that Sharmila would be appointed to take up the responsibility to revive the Congress base in the State.
