Visakhapatnam: Indian National Science Academy (INSA)'s 88th anniversary general meeting started off at a high note with president Chandrima Shaha inaugurating it with a clarion call to scientists to evolve collective thinking.

The delegates were welcomed by Prof K Sunil Singh, Director, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa who pointed out that it was very rare that two consecutive meetings are hosted by the same institution. After the meeting in Goa in physical form, this is the first time that AGM has been held in the physical mode. Dr GPS Murty, Chief Scientist of NIO, Vizag Centre, welcomed the gathering.

He said that this was the first ever INSA meet in Vizag. In her inaugural address, detailing the activities of INSA despite Covid-19, Prof Shaha enumerated many online activities like webinars by Prof Marcia McNutt, President of US Academy of Sciences, and Prof C Jagadish- the present president of Australian Academy of Sciences. With an aim of sensitising people to the role of science in our lives, an essay and a film-photography competition were also organised.
