Power supply to Jagananna Colonies to cost `1,826 cr to APEPDCL

EASTERN Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL), which has been ranked No. 1 by pegging transmission and distribution (T&D) losses at 6 per cent, the lowest among Discoms in the country, will spend Rs1,826 crore for electrification of houses being built under YSR Jagananna Colonies aimed at providing houses to all eligible families.
The power supply will be made by APEPDCL in its jurisdiction spread over Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and both Godavari districts in the housing colonies in phases. A total number of 5.12 lakh plots have been identified to extend the benefit in 6011 layouts in the five districts. The government is implementing its flagship programme 'Navaratnalu Pedalandariki Illu'. It is giving house-site pattas to 30.60 lakh poor families in 17,005 layouts across the State.The government has sanctioned 15.60 lakh houses under PMAY-YSR housing scheme in the first phase with a target to complete by June, 2022. There is also a proposal to sanction 12.70 lakh houses in the next phase during the year-end. The houses are planned to be completed by March, 2023.
APEPDCL has been mandated to provide comprehensive infrastructure in the colonies. The Discom is committed to improving the overall socio-economic condition of the project area. Power has been supplied to 2,298 water work services on a war-footing at a cost of Rs 46.84 crore.
APEPDCL Chairman and Managing Director K Santhosha Rao in his Independence Day address to the employees, said as part of the Navrathnalu, the State Government is attaching top priority to provide homes to all the eligible families under the YSR Jagananna Colonies.
In the first phase, power supply will be made to 3.28 plots in 3,951 layouts through overhead lines to the layouts of less than 550 plots and through underground cables with layouts of more than 550 plots at an estimated cost of Rs1,217 crore.
