To curb the growing menace of plastic waste pollution, a model project, plastic waste recycling plant was launched at the Municipal dumping yard, Kapuluppada, in Visakhapatnam.

Hyderabad: To curb the growing menace of plastic waste pollution, a model project, plastic waste recycling plant was launched at the Municipal dumping yard, Kapuluppada, in Visakhapatnam. The total project cost of about Rs 1 crore is supported by the Rotary Clubs and their members of upto a tune of Rs 75 lakh and Rs 25 lakh donated by Aurobindo Foundation, the CSR arm of Aurobindo Pharma Limited.

The project was implemented by India Youth for Society, a NGO active in the area of environment protection in Vizag, here, they have been creating awareness about the harmful effects of using plastic, importance of waste segregation and recycling. The project is the brainchild of Rtn Prakasham Tata, a native of Vizianagaram settled in the USA, and a leading expert in waste management. To further scale the project, Rtn Tata came with the idea to recycle collected plastic waste thereby generating revenue which can be utilised towards sustaining this activity.
