Vijayawada: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that work on preparation of survey and Detailed Project Report of two Dedicated Freight Corridors connecting Vijayawada is in progress.
Replying to a question by V Vijayasai Reddy (YSRCP), he informed the Rajya Sabha that the work of survey and preparation of DPR for the two DFCs passing through Vijayawada has been undertaken. While the East Coast Corridor from Kharagpur to Vijayawada will stretch over 1,115 Kms, the North-South Sub-Corridor from Vijayawada to Itarsi will have a length of 975 Kms.
The survey/DPR work is in progress, he said, adding the government has not sanctioned any of the two DFCs. The decision regarding sanctioning of any new Freight Corridor depends on many factors including outcome of the DPR, techno-economic feasibility, financial viability and financing arrangements.
