Jagan suspends campaign for a day after stone attack

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took a break from undertaking ‘Memantha Sidham’ bus yatra on Sunday following a stone hurled at him caused injury on Saturday night.
After the attack which caused an injury on his left eyebrow, he was taken to Vijayawada Government Hospital where a team of doctors advised him to rest for some time. As the supporters greeted him with flowers, one person hurled stones injuring the Chief Minister, and MLA Bellampalli Srinivas was accompanying him. Immediately after the incident, doctors were provided first-aid.
As simultaneous elections are being held for the Assembly and Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh on May 13, the activists of YSRCP staged protests across the State and offered prayers for the fast recovery of their leader.
Several YSRCP leaders including Advisor (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu and MP V Vijayasai Reddy described the stone attack as handiwork of the TDP leadership. “As they are apprehending a severe drubbing at the hustings, out of jealousy, the TDP engineered the heinous attack on a popular leader,” Rambabu alleged.
Ramakrishna Reddy said it was a clear case of an attempt to assassinate the Chief Minister by his political detractors. Some of the leaders alleged that a series of hate speeches by Naidu, his son Lokesh and others might have led to the attack.
The TDP denied the charge. Following the spread of the news on social media and electronic channels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others expressed shock over the incident and conveyed their good wishes for quick recovery of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu has asked the Election Commission of India (ECI) to probe into the stone attack on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Wishing him quick recovery, Naidu said on microblogging site X “I strongly condemn the attack on @ysjagan. I request the @ECISVEEP to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident.” He wanted the officials responsible for the incident punished.
