Vijayawada: The unveiling of 125-ft tall statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian constitution at Vijayawada has several unique features. Including the 81-ft pedestal on which it was installed, it will technically become the India’s tallest Ambedkar statue.
The statue is made of steel framing and bronze cladding, which is completely made in India. It is made of 400 MT of stainless steel and 120 MT of bronze. The pedestal design is intended as Kalachakra Maha Mandal of Buddhist Architecture. The pedestal of the statue is G+2 Isosceles trapezium shaped RCC framed structure.
The shape and finishing of it is an architectural inspiration. In his remarks before unveiling, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the statue symbolises social justice. “Symbol of social justice in the heart of Vijayawada, this statue embodies his legacy and commitment of the AP Government to his inspiring ideals.” V. Vijayasai Reddy, YSRCP Parliamentary Party leader, said in a posting on X.
The project is developed at a cost of Rs 404.35 crore in an area of 18.81 acres. The structure of the building is made of pile foundation with 539 piles of 30 mtr pile depth, shear walls and inclined RCC slabs and beams with an inclination of 50 degrees.
The pedestal building all alone is made of 11,140 cum of concrete and 1445 MT of TMT and cladded with pink sandstone from Rajasthan.
