Delhi exit poll results 2025: BJP predicted to win, AAP faces setback
As voting concluded for the 70-member Delhi Assembly, exit polls have started pouring in, predicting a major victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) may face a setback in its bid for a third consecutive term.
Polling day began with a slow turnout but picked up momentum as voters headed to polling booths in large numbers. Several high-stakes constituencies, including New Delhi, Kalkaji, and Jangpura, witnessed intense electoral battles. The final vote count is scheduled for February 8, but early predictions suggest that the political landscape of Delhi may undergo a significant shift.
Mixed Exit Poll Predictions
While most exit polls indicate a strong performance by the BJP, a few have predicted a narrow win for AAP. The People’s Pulse exit poll forecasts a landslide victory for the BJP with 51–60 seats, leaving AAP with just 10–19 seats. Similarly, P-MARQ suggests the BJP could secure 39–49 seats, while AAP might end up with 21–31 seats. The Congress is expected to perform poorly, with some polls predicting zero seats for the party.
However, some surveys contradict this trend. The Wee Preside exit poll estimates that AAP could still retain power with 46–52 seats, while BJP may only secure 18–23 seats. Mind Brink exit poll also projects an AAP victory, predicting 44–49 seats for the ruling party and 21–25 seats for BJP.
Political Reactions
As the exit polls surfaced, leaders from different parties responded with strong statements. AAP leader Somnath Bharti dismissed the exit poll results, calling them a "managed affair." He cited past elections where exit polls underestimated AAP’s performance. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit, contesting against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, stated that his party "fought well," though predictions show minimal gains for Congress.
On the other hand, BJP leaders expressed confidence in a comeback. Satish Upadhyay, BJP candidate from Malviya Nagar, claimed that "the bristles of the broom (AAP’s symbol) have scattered" and that BJP’s "lotus is about to bloom." Kalkaji BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri credited the predicted victory to "Modi ji’s wave," stating that Delhi voters want development similar to the rest of the country under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Parvesh Verma, BJP’s candidate from New Delhi, assured that "the lotus will bloom on February 8," while BJP MP Harsh Malhotra remarked that AAP is likely to blame EVMs for an unfavorable result. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva declared, "AAP is leaving, and BJP is coming. Delhi wants a corruption-free government."
Voter Turnout & Election Day Highlights
Despite a strong political contest, Delhi saw its lowest voter turnout in 12 years. By 5 PM, only 57.7% of eligible voters had cast their ballots, a decline compared to 62.6% in 2020 and 67.1% in 2015. This trend raised concerns among political analysts about possible voter apathy.
Meanwhile, key candidates, including AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj and Okhla candidate Amanatullah Khan, cast their votes, with Khan confidently stating, "We are forming the government in Delhi."
What’s Next?
While exit polls provide an early picture, the final results will only be confirmed on February 8 when votes are officially counted. Given past elections, where exit polls have sometimes been inaccurate, political parties remain cautious. The battle for Delhi is not over yet, and all eyes are now set on the counting day to determine the final outcome.
