Visakhapatnam: A decision on the future of the Rushikonda Resorts rebuilt by the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) after demolishing the erstwhile Haritha Beach Resorts in the city at an estimated cost of Rs 500 crore will be taken soon, Minister for Tourism RK Roja and Minister for Industries Gudivada Amarnath said here on Thursday.
The resort comprising seven super-structures in an area of 9.88 acres overlooking the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal was declared open by Swarupananda Saraswati, President of Visakha Sarada in the presence of both the Ministers, MP and YSRCP regional coordinator YV Subba Reddy, Bheemili MLA Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao and several senior officials from the Tourism Department and the district administration.
With election notification expected to be issued in the next few days by the Central Election Commission and the opening of the camp office of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appearing remote due to cases pending before the Supreme Court and AP High Court, the decision to open the CMO has been put on hold leading to bitter criticism.
Opposition parties including, TDP, Jana Sena Party, BJP and the Left parties have declared their demand to continue Amaravati as single capital and the three-capital plan has led to bitter criticism from all of them and a section of farmers from the Amaravati-Vijayawada region. A three-member IAS officers' committee set up by the government had recommended the resorts as the best option from a security point of view and strategic location for housing the CMO. The government had also issued several GOs to house various HoDs and senior officials in government and private buildings for their offices and residences to enable the Chief Minister to hold review meetings in North Andhra once the camp office is opened in Visakhapatnam.
After the inauguration of the Rushikonda resorts, Amarnath told the media that a final decision on the use of the new resorts will be decided by the Chief Minister soon.
Roja said the new resort was built after obtaining all the clearances from the Coastal Regulation Zone authorities and others to provide a world-class building in Visakhapatnam as it has emerged as the best city in AP.
