AP CM says the outreach programme will be enahanced and a US Consul office opened in due course in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam: THIRD American Corner in India after the one in Hyderabad and Ahmedabad was launched jointly by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in virtual mode along with US Consul General of Hyderabad Joel Reifman and USAID Mission Director Veena Reddy on Thursday.
After inaugurating the American Corner at Andhra University, the Chief Minister said that this outreach programme will be enhanced further to have an American Consul office in Visakhapatnam in the near future. The State Government has decided to develop Visakhapatnam as the executive capital.
American Corner is a partnership between the US Consulate and AU, which aims to provide educational and cultural opportunities for the students.
"I am happy to announce that the young people of AP will have access to a global knowledge hub in the form of the American Corner which we have inaugurated," said the Chief Minister in his opening remarks.
"This newest American Corner will soon emerge as one of the best in the world. The young people of AP will benefit from these resources, contribute to the prosperity of the State, and strengthen the US-India partnership. I am grateful to the US Consulate General in Hyderabad for setting up this outstanding facility in Visakhapatnam and I am confident this high-level coordination between AP and the US will continue," Reddy said.
Having American Corner in AU will go a long way in bridging the skill gap and supporting students to study abroad in the leading universities of the world. He stated that this initiative will play a very vital role in the lives of the students and thanked the officials for bringing this to Visakhapatnam popularly known as City of Destiny.
Later AU Vice-Chancellor PVGD Prasad Reddy told reporters here that the corner will help students pursue higher education in America.
"An American Corner is a community gathering place that features guest speakers, movie screenings, English language classes, book clubs, education advising for US universities, and celebrations of American holidays," said Consul General Reifman. "We are proud to have AU as our partner in opening this American Corner. We're looking forward to putting together programs on everything from climate change and youth outreach to entrepreneurship and women's empowerment. With the active engagement of Chief Minister Reddy, it is a testament to the growing relationship between the people and the governments of the United States and AP," he opined.
