Hyderabad: The new Congress government under CM Revanth Reddy is all out to woo the citizens of Hyderabad. Sticking to one of its promises made during the election period, it has announced a scheme allowing citizens to pay reduced amounts for their pending traffic challans, offering discounts ranging from 60-90%.
The scheme is active from December 26 to January 10. However, there have been complaints from some users who didn't receive the declared discounts and reached out to the Hyderabad police on social media.
The government then issued a clarification to address these concerns. The discounts vary based on vehicle categories, with pushcart owners and RTC drivers receiving a 90% reduction, while two and three-wheelers get an 80% waiver. Cars and heavier vehicles are offered a 60% discount.
This initiative aligns with the Congress party's election promises and aims to benefit vehicle owners.
To avail of the reduced payment, vehicle owners must visit the Telangana traffic e-challan website, check their pending challans, and pay the discounted amount online.
There are many pending challans in the state, with reports suggesting around two crore cases.
Additionally, earlier data from the Centre highlighted that over 4.73 crore traffic violation challans were issued across India in 2022, worth ₹7,563.60 crore.
According to the Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Karnataka leads with the highest number of registered vehicles (15 years or older), followed by Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
