Hyderabad: The Union budget, which includes the allocations to the Railways was presented on the floor of Parliament on February 1. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & IT held a virtual press conference today from New Delhi on highlights of allocations pertaining to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States.
SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain along with other senior Railway officials participated in the press meet at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.
Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Telangana State has been sanctioned a record budget allocation of Rs 5,337 crore for the year 2025-26. He stated the annual average budget outlay for combined Andhra Pradesh State during the years 2009-14 was only Rs 886 crore. The Budget allocation to Telangana has witnessed almost six times increase as compared to the average allocation done during the period of 2009-14 for the combined State.
The Minister stated that an amount of Rs. 41,677 is being invested for various Rail development projects in Telangana state. He informed that the Railway network in Telangana is now 100% electrified. He stated that Telangana has been leading in the installation of Kavach, with the centre of excellence for Kavach located at Secunderabad. Currently, 1,465 km of Kavach has been commissioned in various sections across SCR jurisdiction and the trials for the installation of latest version 4.0 are underway, he said. We have targeted to deploy Kavach throughout the entire Rail network of the Country in the next six years, he added.
Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that five Vande Bharat trains are being operated in Telangana State covering seven districts and having nine stoppages. Further, he stated that the redevelopment of 40 Railway stations in Telangana has been taken under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He announced that 50 New Namo Bharat trains, 200 Vande Bharat trains and 100 new Amrit Bharat trains have been approved and the running of these trains will be announced from time to time. The Union Minister stated that Railways has undertaken a significant mission of replacements of old tracks i.e., 7,000 km. Indian Railways is planning to upgrade the Railway tracks to run the trains at a speed of 160 Kmph on important sections. Similarly, some routes will have the capacity to run the trains at speed of 130 Kmph and entire network will have a capacity to run the trains at 100 Kmph.
