Hyderabad: On the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary, the Telangana government officially released the Government Order (GO) regarding the classification of Scheduled Castes (SC). This represents a significant advancement in the effort to streamline reservations for the SC community within the State.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee on SC Categorization, chaired by Vice Chairman and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with Members Damodar Raja Narasimha and Ponnam Prabhakar, met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat on Monday and handed over the first copy of the GO to him.

Moving forward, SC reservations, which have been uniformly applied until now, will be distributed based on categorisation. The authorities have published the gazette in English, Telugu, and Urdu.

A total of 59 SC sub-castes have been divided into three groups in the Telangana State. One percent reservation has been allotted to 15 sub-castes in Group A. 9 percent reservation has been made for 18 sub-castes in Group B and 5 percent for 26 sub-castes in Group C. In the background of the implementation of SC classification, henceforth vacancies in government jobs will be filled based on the priority of these groups.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Telangana is the first State in India to implement the revolutionary decision of SC sub-categorisation.

Taking to X on Monday, the Chief Minister said," We are all proud to have made history. On the highly auspicious day of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the Telangana government paid the best tributes by bringing into force a great Act of social Justice addressing a long overdue demand of classification of SC

sub-castes,".

"Empowering and ensuring opportunities for all sections of Dalits, the state govt issued a gazette notification, whose first copy was handed over to me today by the committee that undertook the historic work," he disclosed.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media at the Secretariat, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy along with Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Raja Narasimha, said that Telangana was the first State to implement SC categorisation after the Supreme Court verdict.

"All parties had previously spoken about SC categorisation in the Assembly. But no party took it forward. After the Congress government was formed, it took steps in that direction and accelerated the process. After the verdict of Supreme Court on SC Categorisation, the State government formed a ministerial sub-committee and moved forward. It received a few thousand requests and studied them a lot," he said.

"From now on, the SC categorisation will be applied to notifications given in education and jobs. We are going to give job notifications on a large scale from today," Minister Raja Narasimha said.
