Hyderabad: It was a meeting steeped in patriotism and camaraderie as Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi and the ace fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran aerobatic team visited Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy. The occasion brought together generations of aviators, showcasing the indomitable spirit of those who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.
For Uttam Kumar Reddy, a decorated former fighter pilot, the visit was a heartfelt reunion with his Air Force roots. Having flown the advanced MiG-21 and MiG-23 fighter aircraft during his tenure, Uttam Kumar Reddy spent years safeguarding India’s skies along the sensitive borders with Pakistan and China. Reflecting on his service, he shared, "Those were the most fulfilling years of my life. Serving in the IAF, flying from forward airbases, and contributing to the security of our nation was both an honor and a duty I will always cherish."
The Surya Kiran aerobatic team, often hailed as the ambassadors of the Indian Air Force, is known globally for its breathtaking aerial displays. Their visit was a tribute to Uttam Kumar Reddy’s illustrious service and a celebration of the shared ethos of courage, precision, and unwavering patriotism.

The meeting occurred just hours before the Surya Kiran team captivated thousands with a stunning air show at Tank Bund in Hyderabad. The aerial spectacle was a highlight of the 'Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu', marking the first anniversary of the Congress government in Telangana. As colourful jets painted the sky with precision formations, the audience was reminded of the deep bond between the armed forces and the people they protect.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, who also served on the Parliamentary Committee on Defence from 2019 to 2023, passionately advocated prioritising the welfare of defence personnel. "Our servicemen and women, both active and retired, and their families make immense sacrifices for the nation. It is our responsibility to ensure they are met with respect, proper facilities, and support," he said. He assured that the Congress government in Telangana is committed to the welfare of these brave individuals and their families.
Looking to the future, Uttam Kumar Reddy called on young Indians to draw inspiration from the Air Force and its initiatives like the Surya Kiran team. "We must prepare future generations to carry forward the legacy of patriotism and valor," he emphasised.
