Hyderabad: To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, a Special campaign 4.0 was launched to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of institutionalising Swachhata, enhancing workplace cleanliness, promoting sustainable practices, and optimising the disposal of pending matters. The key targets of Special Campaign 4.0 also included addressing public grievances swiftly, especially through platforms like Rail Madad and CPGRAMS. To mark the occasion, saplings were also planted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

As part of the same, South Central Railway observed the Swachhata Pakhwada Cleanliness Drive from October 1 to 15 with the theme of ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata’. The fortnight cleanliness campaign has been a huge success with active participation of the officers & staff along with school children, Scouts & Guides, NGOs and so on across the six divisions and workshops of South Central Railway.

As part of the campaign, various events and activities such as Swachhata pledges, Shramdhaans, plantation programs, walkathons, awareness rallies on swachhata, awareness campaigns on plastic waste & ban on single use plastic, nukkad nataks and so on were organized at Railway stations, colonies, trains, running rooms, workshops, depots, loco sheds, offices, hospitals/health units and other railway establishments across the zone. Waste to wealth activity was also undertaken wherein value materials were extracted from waste such as metals, plastics, organic matter and repurposed into higher value items, enhancing their utility and appeal.

Swachhata activities were carried out at 636 Railway stations on SCR to improve cleanliness on station premises and spread awareness among the public. The activities were also undertaken at 66 sub-shops in Lalaguda, Rayanapadu and Tirupati workshops of the zone. A total of 5,196 km of railway track was also cleaned across the zone during the Swachhata Pakhwada campaign. Around 36,183 people, including officers, staff, school students and so on participated in Shramdhaan activity at various railway premises. Regular cleanliness inspections were carried out by officers and supervisors covering 183 trains on SCR jurisdiction. As part of the Anti-littering drive, 5,010 persons were counselled against littering at railway stations & trains and 283 persons were fined and an amount of Rs 56,600 was collected.

South Central Railway also planted 73,836 trees across the divisions and workshops during the fortnight drive. A total 27.44 tonnes of plastic was removed from Railway tracks & various railway premises and 430 tonnes of scrap was collected from workshops. The Swachh Parisar actvitiy (clean workplace & clean residential premises) was observed at 1,522 offices across the zone and 443 tonnes of waste was collected. To spread awareness on Swachhata, 348 webinars/seminars were organised and witnessed participation of around 11,500 persons. An extensive social media campaign was also carried out by SCR Headquarters and all six divisions of the zone. Day-to-Day Swachhata activities, creatives and infographics were posted to further spread awareness among the youth.

SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain appreciated the entire team of South Central Railway for enthusiastically participating in the Swachhata Pakhwada drive. He stated the fortnight cleanliness campaign has been a huge success across the zone. Although the Swachhata drive is culminating, we should continue to follow and encourage cleanliness practices at Railway premises and our homes throughout the year, he said.
