Hyderabad: Indian Railways has laid down specified norms for the procedure of cancellation and refund of fare with regard to reserved tickets during disruption of train services. In this regard, the rules regarding cancellation of reserved tickets for fully cancelled trains is reiterated below:
As per the Railway Refund Rules, in case of full cancellation of a train due to accidents, breaches, floods, Bandh or Rail roko and so on in unavoidable circumstances, the reservation ticket booked through PRS counter should be surrendered at PRS counter of any railway station within three days of the scheduled departure of the train. On submission of the same, full fare paid is refundable to the passenger for the entire journey without any cancellation charges. In case of tickets booked through online means i.e., e-ticket, the ticket will be cancelled automatically and the full refund of fare will be processed through IRCTC and credited to the concerned bank account.
During unavoidable situations, the change in pattern of train services arises due to unusual incidents like flood situation due to heavy rains, Law & order situations like bandh, Rail Roko and so on, Railways are compelled to cancel the train services to provide safety and security to the passengers. In the recent times, Indian Railways is carrying out various infrastructural works in large scale, while carrying out such works, Railways ensures that the work is carried out with least inconvenience to the rail passengers, due to the necessity, pattern of train services needs to be changed in the form of cancellation, diversion, to facilitate the infra development works.
In such instances, the information regarding the change in the pattern of train services will be conveyed to the rail users through Print Media, Electronic Media, Social Media and text messages to mobile of the passengers. It is advised to provide the mobile numbers of the bonafide passengers only, while booking the tickets. Hence, SCR appeals to the rail users to note the stipulations of refund rules and in case of full cancellation of train services, the reservation ticket should be surrendered at PRS counter of any nearby station within three days of scheduled departure of the train for claiming full refund.
