Hyderabad: Minister for Transport and BC Welfare, Ponnam Prabhakar, has emphasised the importance of cooperation among officials from the GHMC, Police, Water Works, Electricity, R&B, and other relevant departments to prevent any issues during the month of Ramzan.
On Tuesday, the Minister convened a review meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the preparations for Ramzan, which begins on March 2.
During the meeting, Ponnam Prabhakar, who also serves as the In-charge Minister for the Hyderabad district, highlighted the necessity for special measures to maintain cleanliness in the city throughout Ramadan.
GHMC Commissioner Ilambarithi announced that dedicated sanitation teams are being established at mosques and Eidgahs, and there will be repairs made to street lights, along with the installation of temporary lighting.
He mentioned that special measures are being implemented at Mecca Masjid, Royal Mosque, and Miralam Eidgah, with preparations underway on an urgent basis.
The GHMC Commissioner indicated that the entomology team is conducting fogging at night to control mosquito populations, and a control room has been established involving all departments, with special officers designated to ensure smooth coordination of arrangements.
Water Works Managing Director Ashok Reddy stated that water packets are being provided at mosques and Eidgahs, along with the deployment of special tankers to address drinking water requirements. He also noted that drainage repairs are ongoing along the routes to the mosques.
Officials reported that mobile transformers are being set up throughout Ramadan to accommodate the increased electricity demand during the summer months.
They said steps are being taken to ensure that emergency power supply personnel are available 24 hours a day at mosques and Eidgahs.
Dairy officials said they will supply milk to the people in sufficient quantity to avoid any milk shortages during the month of Ramadan. JAD officials said that orders have already been issued to Muslim employees to finish their duties by 4 PM.
During the meeting, MLAs and MLCs have appealed to police officials to control traffic and allow street vendors to continue until midnight so that people can shop without facing any inconvenience during the Ramadan festival.
The meeting was attended by Government Advisor Shabbir Ali, GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Telangana Minority Welfare Special Secretary Tausif Iqbal, MLAs and MLCs and other minority leaders.
