Ministers Pledge Timely Completion of Devadula Project by 2026
Devadula project work in progress
Hyderabad: Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy has promised that all pending works of the Devadula Lift Irrigation Project will be completed by March 2026.
Uttam Kumar Reddy along with his Cabinet colleagues Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Seethakka and irrigation officials on Friday visited the Devadula Lift Irrigation project to assess its progress and discuss future plans. The Ministers provided several assurances and addressed concerns regarding the project’s completion.
On the occasion, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy assured that all pending works of the project would be completed in a stipulated period.
"We are committed to ensuring that 100 percent of the pending works are finished within this timeframe," he said and further announced that the project would be formally inaugurated by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in March 2026.
However, the Ministers did not hold back in criticising the previous administration under chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy accused KCR of acting like a "decoy" by misusing the irrigation department for personal gain and alleged that massive scams worth thousands of crores occurred in nearly every project undertaken by the previous government.
"In the name of projects, they spent ₹1.81 lakh crores during KCR's tenure, leaving ₹14,000 crore worth of bills pending," Ponguleti claimed.
He highlighted the significance of the Sammakka Barrage, which would lift 60 TMC of water for 300 days a year through the Devadula project, ensuring that the united Warangal and Nalgonda districts are well-irrigated.
The Ministers assured that they would not make empty promises and further stated that they would not make decisions from the comfort of a farmhouse, but would remain accessible to the public and officials 24/7.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy also promised that the pending bills related to the Devadula project would be cleared soon.
