Minister Seethakka distbrses loans to women self-help groups hit by Musi project

Hyderabad: In a significant move aimed at empowering women displaced by the Musi rejuvenation project, the Telangana government has provided financial assistance to 17 women self-help groups.

Minister for Panchayat Raj and Women and Child Welfare Seethakka distributed cheques to these groups, totaling Rs3.44 crore, benefiting 172 women, at Praja Bhavan here on Friday.

The event was attended by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLAs Balala and Kausar Mohiuddin, GHMC Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, and Stree Nidhi MD Vidyasagar Reddy.

The initiative is part of the government's broader mission to rehabilitate and provide economic opportunities to those affected by the Musi river's flooding.

Speaking at the event, Minister Seethakka acknowledged the challenges faced by those who were relocated due to the river’s flooding. She emphasised the importance of understanding the realities of such relocations, noting that it’s difficult for people to move from one place to another. However, the need for better living conditions in flood-free areas was vital, especially as the frequency of natural calamities continues to increase.

Seethakka urged people to focus on ensuring that future generations have the opportunity to live in a healthy environment, with access to clean air and water.

She announced that each member of the women’s groups would receive Rs2 lakhs in loans, with Rs1.4 lakh of the amount being waived off by the government. The remaining Rs60,000 would be repaid by the women.

Additionally, the Minister outlined plans for providing sewing machines and engaging these groups in various businesses with government support. Seethakka also highlighted the government’s efforts to ensure that children of those affected by the Musi project are given educational facilities and opportunities for a brighter future.
