Hyderabad: The 'Alai Balai' event, led by Bandaru Vijayalakshmi, daughter of Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, was held at Nampally Exhibition Grounds here on Sunday.

The event was inaugurated by Dattatreya himself, amidst vibrant cultural performances like traditional dances, Kolatam, and tribal dance forms. The skillful displays by Pothurajus and the unique Hyderabad traditional "marching music" were the highlights of the occasion.

Several prominent political figures, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, Telangana Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and D Sridhar Babu, MPs Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, DK Aruna, Raghunandan Rao, Dr K Laxman, Eatala Rajendar, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and Telangana Agriculture Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy attended the programme.

The 'Alai Balai' event is an annual tradition held the day after Dasara festival, aimed at bringing leaders from various political parties together. It reflects Telangana's rich cultural heritage through a variety of artistic performances.

Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu praised the ongoing efforts to preserve cultural traditions through this event. He emphasised the importance of unity in society, saying that the concept of unity should extend to family, region, country, and the world. Venkaiah Naidu noted that festivals are not only about prayers and rituals, but also about people coming together and sharing moments of joy.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted that the main objective of 'Alai Balai' is to spread Telangana's culture far and wide. He noted that Dasara is the biggest festival for the people of Telangana, with icons like the 'Palapitta' bird and the Jammichettu tree coming to mind during the celebrations.

Similarly, 'Alai Balai' is now synonymous with Bandaru Dattatreya. Revanth Reddy appreciated Dattatreya's efforts to protect Telangana's culture, irrespective of political affiliations, and lauded Vijayalakshmi for carrying forward the legacy of organising the event.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy has expressed that while criticism among political parties is common, the language used in current times needs improvement.

Kishan Reddy urged political leaders to be mindful of their words, stating that personal attacks and harsh criticism are not beneficial. He further hoped that events like 'Alai Balai' would continue to flourish and bring people together in the future.

This annual event continues to play a vital role in celebrating and preserving Telangana's cultural traditions while promoting unity across political lines.
