Hyderabad: Minister for Forest, Environment and Endowments Konda Surekha said the Congress government is committed to uphold the sentiments of all religions and ensuring the preservation of the State’s Ganga-Jamuna culture.

Speaking at the reinstallation ceremony of the Muthyalamma deity at Kummari Guda in Secunderabad on Wednesday, Konda Surekha emphasised the Congress government’s inclusive governance.

The event, marked by cultural and religious fervor, saw the Minister being welcomed with traditional honours by the temple authorities. She offered silk clothes to the deity and participated in special prayers.

The local women expressed their admiration for the Minister by presenting her with turmeric, vermilion, and sarees in a traditional gesture of respect.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister noted that the new 250-kilogram Panchaloha idol of Muthyalamma was installed promptly, fulfilling the government's promise to restore the damaged idol. The temple premises have also been renovated to enhance its grandeur. She praised the local residents and devotees for their patience and cooperation during the reconstruction and reinstallation process.

The Minister assured the people that stringent action has been taken against those responsible for the desecration of the previous idol. She also reiterated that the government is committed to honour the beliefs and traditions of all communities, as envisioned by the Constitution.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s cultural harmony under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Surekha said the city is emerging as a “Mini India,” a vibrant blend of various religions and cultures and the Congress government prioritises the faith, traditions, and aspirations of all communities while working for their welfare.

Minister Surekha offered prayers to Goddess Muthyalamma for the health, prosperity, and well-being of all citizens.

Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar, who is also an in-charge Minister of Hyderabad district, also took part in the programme.

Terming the incident that happened in Secunderabad temple in the past is unfortunate, Ponnam Prabhakar said the State government has immediately responded and, at the request of the people, the idol was re-installed under the auspices of the Endowment department.

Appealing to opposition parties not to politicise over the incidents of temples and prayer halls, he said the State government is working aimed at protecting the trust of people.

Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Ganesh, Sanath Nagar Congress in-charge Kota Neelima, Principal Secretary (Endowments) Shailaja Ramaiyer, Additional Commissioner Krishnaveni, Assistant Commissioner Sandhya Rani, and several Congress leaders were present.
