Hyderabad: Marking the birthday of Telangana’s first chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Green India Challenge has initiated a special plantation drive called Vriksharchana.

Responding to the call, Kadiyam nursery farmers organised a grand event in Rajahmundry, planting 1,000 saplings to commemorate the occasion.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Joginapally Santosh Kumar graced the event as the chief guest and actively participated in the plantation drive alongside the farmers.

Speaking at the event, Santosh Kumar commended the initiative, stating that Paluri Nani, a dedicated nursery farmer from Kadiyam, led this noble effort in honour of KCR, a visionary leader, a true friend of farmers, and a champion of greenery.

He lauded the farmers for their heartfelt tribute and their unwavering commitment to afforestation.

Reflecting on KCR’s leadership, Santosh Kumar remarked, "From the days of the Telangana movement, KCR has always emphasised unity and collective progress. Today’s gathering and enthusiasm among the farmers are a testament to that very spirit."

He further highlighted the Haritha Haram initiative, which, during KCR’s 10-year tenure, resulted in the plantation of 280 crore saplings, significantly increasing Telangana’s green cover by 8.3 per cent.

Farmers acknowledged that Telangana’s afforestation programme not only enhanced greenery, but also boosted their livelihoods, as the government’s purchase of saplings from their nurseries provided employment and economic growth.

"I sincerely thank all the farmers for their love and respect towards KCR. Your dedication to planting trees and protecting the environment is truly commendable," Santosh Kumar added.
