Minister vows to protect the Mudumal standing stones

Hyderabad: Minister for Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao has pledged to take measures to protect the Mudumal standing stones and transform the site into a center for tourism, history, and research in the near future.
On Sunday, the Minister visited the Mudumal standing stones (menhirs) located in the Krishna mandal of Narayanpet district.
During his remarks, Jupally Krishna Rao expressed pride in the recognition of the Mudumal standing stones, which have been added to UNESCO's tentative list of World Heritage sites.
While at the site, historical researchers and astronomers informed the Minister about how ancient humans utilised standing stones to understand astronomy, track seasons, and observe weather patterns, explaining that these early people arranged the stones in a specific order to signify different times of the year.
"It is remarkable to uncover insights about life from 4,000 years ago when technology was nonexistent," said Jupally Krishna Rao.
The Minister stated that if these stones obtain permanent recognition from UNESCO, they will achieve a distinguished status globally, leading to international importance. This recognition is expected to draw foreign tourists, enhance job prospects and infrastructure, and foster tourism growth, he said.
Jupally Krishna Rao mentioned that a comprehensive review regarding the development of the area, the subsequent action plan for securing permanent recognition, and other related matters will take place soon.
The Minister also confirmed that compensation will be provided to individuals who have lost land in the designated site.
