Hyderabad: Telangana State Media Academy chairman Srinivas Reddy on Monday said as per the government's rule, every eligible journalist, irrespective of the societies, would get a house site.

The swearing-in ceremony of Kalukuri Ramulu, who has been appointed the State deputy general secretary of TUWJ, was held at the union office in Basheerbagh. Srinivas Reddy, who was the chief guest at the event, congratulated Ramulu on taking charge.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the 18-year-old house site allotment issue was handed over to the Jawaharlal Nehru Society by the Chief Minister. He urged other journalists not to be subjected to any doubts and misconceptions. "As per rules, the government will accept applications from everyone working as a journalist irrespective of the accreditations and the societies. He added that the Union would play a key role in solving the problems of the journalists.

He recalled that in the past journalists had got houses in Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Gopanapalli and added that if accreditation facility was available, it was only a struggle by the union and Deshodharaka Bhavan was the venue for this. He wished that every journalist should develop professionalism and make a mark for themselves in the society.

Union State president K Virahat Ali said Ramulu, who belongs to the electronic media department, had been appointed as the deputy general secretary with a view to further strengthening the community. He said a special electronic media conference would be held soon to unite electronic media journalists working across the State. He said a special wing had been set up to strengthen the women's wing to enhance the importance of women journalists in the community. He also said it was his union that would fight impartially to solve the problems of the journalists.

The event was presided over by HUJ president Shiga Shankar, union general secretary Ramnarayana, steering committee members Majid, State treasurer Mote Venkat Reddy, secretary Yadagiri, Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists Housing Society president Kiran Kumar, Small Press association president Yusuf Babu, press club general secretary Ravi Kant Reddy, HUJ general secretary Shaukat. Union Medchal district president Gaddamidi Balaraju were present.
