Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, MLA and former Cabinet minister has written an open letter to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge against encouraging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s abusive and criminal language against BRS president & former chief minister K Chandrasekhar and demanded that he take stern disciplinary action against the Chief Minister.

In his letter, Harish Rao expressed his deep concern regarding the blatant hypocrisy within the Indian National Congress in condoning the abusive and derogatory language brazenly used by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy against former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his family. He stated, “It is shocking that while Congress leadership condemns BJP leaders for their inflammatory remarks against Rahul Gandhi, the same standards are conveniently ignored or disregarded when it comes to Revanth Reddy. This tolerance of his crude and offensive conduct raises serious questions about the ethical and moral compass of the Congress party.

“In your letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, you justifiably condemned the BJP for calling Rahul Gandhi a “Number Yek Atankvadhi…” and your AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal demanded nationwide protests against such inflammatory language. You have repeatedly emphasised that foul and abusive language degrades political discourse and undermines India’s democratic and constitutional values and Gandhian principles. Yet, your own leader in Telangana, Revanth Reddy, continues to publicly spew defamatory, filthy, and highly offensive remarks against KCR without facing any repercussions from the Congress party. These venomous actions are starkly contradictory to your own principles and also Rahul Gandhi's ideals, as he propagated during elections: 'Nafrat ke bazaar mein, mohabbat ki dukaan kholunga’.

Harish Rao said, CM Revanth Reddy has crossed all boundaries of political decency, going so far as to cruelly and criminally state that KCR should be pelted with stones and hanged till death and many other vulgar and abuses. Recently, during Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary celebrations, he (Revanth Reddy) once again resorted to abusive language against KCR and his family, in ways unbecoming of any democratic leader. To add insult to injury, Revanth Reddy has even spoken about installing KCR’s statue in front of the secretariat as an affront to the living legend, which is not only barbaric but also criminal. His open provocation of violence against Opposition MLAs, along with physical attacks on freelance journalists and even YouTubers, is equally alarming”.

He further said, “Telangana, under Revanth Reddy’s erratic leadership, has become a breeding ground for dictatorial rule, where the police act as his puppets and personal enforcers, filing baseless and false cases against BRS leaders to stifle dissent and constitutional freedom to expression, while his cronies despite indulging in offences remain scot-free. While it is legitimate that you and your party expect or demand decency and parliamentary dignity from the BJP towards Rahul Gandhi, why does Revanth Reddy escape your scrutiny and continue to behave in such an undignified, undemocratic, and abusive manner towards a stalwart leader of Telangana KCR? Your silence on this matter unfortunately implies tacit approval and even encouragement of his vulgar and vile behaviour.

“This situation evokes the Mahabharata, where King Dhritarashtra wilfully ignored his son Duryodhana’s cruel transgressions, enabling his wicked and destructive path. By allowing Revanth Reddy’s abuses to go unchecked, the Congress Party signals that political decency and decorum is selectively demanded or enforced only when it suits their own vested interests. Such blatant hypocrisy raises disturbing suspicions, of a dubious nexus that grants Revanth Reddy blanket impunity from consequences. While political critique is a vital component of democracy, there can be no justification for vile, defamatory, and unconstitutional abuses masquerading as criticism. Revanth Reddy’s actions show his utter contempt for the constitutional values, democracy and justice. His callous and dictatorial conduct blatantly breaches the Indian Penal Code and stands as an assault on the rule of law.

“I request you to kindly prove that the Congress party does not uphold double standards and truly stands for equality, justice, decency, and democracy by taking immediate and decisive and stern disciplinary action against Revanth Reddy without delay. If he is allowed to continue his vulgarity despite being a Chief Minister, it will not only destroy the democratic political environment but also set dangerous, dictatorial precedents, severely undermining constitutional values and Gandhian principles,” he added.
