Hyderabad: Former Minister Harish Rao on Tuesday visited the Ranganayaka Sagar canal in Salendri village of Chinnakoduru mandal in Siddipet district, where he expressed his joy at seeing the Godavari waters flowing through the canal.

Delighted that irrigation water has reached the farmlands, he paused by the canal to take a selfie, sharing the moment with farmers. He later interacted with local farmers, listening to their concerns and discussing agricultural issues.

Continuing his visit, Harish Rao inspected the sunflower fields in Mettupalli village, where he engaged in direct discussions with farmers.

The farmers expressed their struggles with market instability and low crop prices, highlighting the challenges they face due to the lack of proper pricing. Responding to their concerns, Harish Rao demanded immediate action from the government to address their grievances.

He emphasised that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure a fair Minimum Support Price (MSP) for sunflower farmers. Harish Rao urged the government to set up dedicated procurement centers immediately to guarantee remunerative prices for farmers.

The BRS MLA called for better market awareness initiatives, suggesting that crop details be made available online and that farmers be provided with real-time market insights to help them make informed decisions.

Harish Rao reminded the gathering that the BRS government worked relentlessly to provide irrigation water to the region, making it possible for Godavari water to reach agricultural lands through the Kaleshwaram Project.

He noted that areas that once struggled with water scarcity have now turned fertile, thanks to the vision of K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

However, the former minister strongly criticised the current government’s negligence, stating that farmers are facing severe hardships due to the government’s indifference. He reiterated his commitment to standing by the farmers, vowing to continue fighting for their rights and holding the government accountable for its failures.
