Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi on Monday said that the entire GHMC administration in coordination with all departments was monitoring the entire field level work and taking all necessary steps to ensure that people of the city did not face any difficulties due to the rains in the city for the last three days.

The mayor on Monday made a surprise visit to the control room at the GHMC headquarters and enquired with OSD Anuradha about the rainfall that has fallen in the city so far, the areas where the highest rainfall has been recorded so far, the complaints received, the resolved ones and the details of the water levels of Hussain Sagar, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that only moderate rains had occurred in Hyderabad city and added that officials from all levels, starting from the GHMC commissioner, had made field visits to ensure that people did not face any difficulties in the wake of the red alert issued by the Meteorological Department. “Static emergency teams and DRF teams are working jointly. As many as 242 emergency teams, 157 mobile teams and 30 DRF teams are working at 141 locations. Seven emergency teams have been allocated to Hyderabad Police Commissionerate and four each to Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates. A team of 12 people in the GHMC control room and 10 in the DRF control room are working round the clock,” she said.

She also said that the highest rainfall in the district was 9 cm and added that with the rain more trees fell than water stagnation while informing that they were removed from time to time. “Similarly, a wide publicity has been launched to call the control room to help the people in need. All the officials are in the field area and are alerting the people from time to time. The GHMC’s affiliated departments are working to ensure that there is no loss of life anywhere. People in the inundated areas are being alerted. An inspection in the control room said there was a light to moderate rain forecast in the city on Monday. However, while alerting people, the entire GHMC administration is on high alert. The GHMC control room has received 141 complaints regarding water stagnation till this morning and 140 have been cleared and another one is being done. Similarly, out of 140 complaints of falling of trees, 137 have been removed and three more are being removed,” She said.

She also said that 596 dilapidated buildings had been identified and action had been taken on 344 buildings while 129 buildings had been evacuated. “Four have been sealed and 107 water tanks have been repaired with the respective owners,” she said. The Mayor said that rehabilitation centers had been set up and despite the absence of heavy rains in Hyderabad, all precautionary measures had been taken. She asked people not to walk on the road alone in rains with small children and old people and to call the GHMC control room for necessary help. She said that health camps were being set up as people are likely to fall ill with viral fevers and other diseases after the rains. She appealed to everyone to be vigilant till the rains subside completely.

CCP Srinivas, (UBD) Additional Commissioner Sunanda, Control Room OSD Anuradha and others participated in this program.
