Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Ilambarthi has directed the officials to conduct a comprehensive survey of the Yakutpura slum nala. The commissioner, along with local MLA Jafar Hussain and corporators inspected several stormwater drains in Yakutpura on Wednesday morning.

On the occasion, Commissioner visited Rangeli Kidiki, Hussain Koti, Maulana Chilla, Ganga Nagar and Rain Bazar areas. Earlier, the sewage water overflow on Rangeli Kidiki Street was observed. He instructed the project engineering officers to conduct a detailed survey of the sewage nala and submit a complete report as it is a sewerage drain of the Nizam's era. He then inspected the Ganga Nagar nala at Maula Ka Chilla. The MLA explained to the Commissioner that the nala works had not been completed although it had been going on for three years. The agency has been asked to complete such works as the nala works are going on by the commissioner.

He said there was no problem of funds and added that the works should be completed within the stipulated time frame. The commissioner directed the zonal commissioner to remove it immediately as the local residents said they were facing difficulties due to the accumulation of garbage in the nala and water logging into the houses.

The residents of the colony explained to the commissioner that the houses would get water as the rainwater in the rain bazaar exit box drain did not go away and the flood water stagnated. The MLA requested the commissioner that proposals for carrying out the box drain works at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore had been prepared for taking up the works. The commissioner suggested that the construction work should be taken up on a war-footing without causing any inconvenience to the public.

The Commissioner said like the Road Development Plan, a master plan was required for the development of the nala to ensure systematic development and maintenance of rainwater drainage of Hyderabad city and added that this would help in resolving the flood reduction as well as connecting the existing nullahs with the new urban expansion. The Commissioner said the works had been undertaken under SNDP in the city with the aim of ensuring that the people in the old city did not face any difficulties. He instructed the officials to complete the works undertaken in the old basti by the next monsoon.
